This will allow you to see signs of a Merfolk or Creature like Mermaid/Merman.

Casting Instructions for 'Send Me A Sign'

You will need the following items for this spell:

  • Bell
  • Stick(or Branch)
  • String

Tie the string to the bell and through the stick in the water. Lower the bell into the water and shake the bell in the water keep saking it and watch for the stick as well.

I fail to see how this would help you see mermaids, but I am grateful it is not another transformation spell, so I suppose if you enchant the bell, say a chant, and meditate, it might work in some small way to connect with water spirits such as mermaids.
