Start with the basics first. Basics are the place to start *before* any spellwork or any other magic(k) is done. This is both for safety and success. ;)

Meditation, visualization, grounding/centering, energy flow and control, shielding and circle casting, elements, days, colors, tools, moon phases.

After shielding it is more path specific and not necessarily needed. ;)

There are articles posted on the site explaining what the basics are and a few ways how to do them (as well as their purpose). I suggest you look at the articles posted by SilverVixen, as she is always helpful.
