Need Wicca Teacher

I have recentlytaken an interest in Wicca. I feel like it is the path for me. I would however like a teacher/mentor/ guide to help me to get on the path. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. If you can help me just mail me. :D

If you're seriously looking for someone from whom to learn Wicca you would do far better to find someone near you from whom you can learn in a face-to-face setting. While there is some information that can be shared on-line, there are many important teachings in Wicca that require that the teacher and student meet on a face-to-face basis. This is particularly true when you get into energy work.

You're probably not going to find someone willing to take you on as a student until you turn 18, but that doesn't mean that you can't start looking for a teacher before them. To find someone near you you might want to look at http://www.witchvox.com to see if there are any groups near you or any experienced individuals. Also check to see if there are any metaphysical shops in your area because they often offer Wicca 101 courses. And attend any open gatherings in your area. At gatherings or events you can meet other Wiccans in your area and get a feel for who you might like and trust as a teacher.

Thank you Lark for the information/ advice. Although, I am going to be in the "broom closet" until I am 18 (family issues). On top of that I am moving after high school (in about a year). So eventuallyI will have to wait a year for a teacher.

I don't mind this because I really want to be in the craft and I would wait 10 years for a teacher. So I guess my new question is.... What are the things I can learn online and/or on my own? I mean the basics, of course.

There is a first class book on Wicca. It is called The Witches Bible, by Janet & Stewart Farrar.
There are also quite a few of the original founders of Wicca still alive! Notably Patricia Crowther , and Maxine Sanders, the widow of Alex Sanders. She has a web-site. Contact her, she will be pleased to hear from you, and will help you to find a good teacher. She lives in Wales. I know Maxine quite well, over many years.You will find her on Google.

One of the first things you might want to start working on is gaining a deeper understanding of Wiccan theology and developing a personal relationship with the Divine. Some books that I'd suggest on this topic include "The Witches' God" and "The Witches' Goddess" both by Janet and Stewart Farrar, and also "Devoted to You" by Judy Harrow. The latter is an excellent book on working with one's Patron Deities. I'd also suggest "Pagan Theology: Paganism as a World Religion" by Michael York and "A World Full of Gods: An Inquiry into Polytheism" by John Michael Greer

I would also suggest doing some reading on the history of Wicca so you understand our roots and myths more clearly. Some excellent books on the subject include "Gerald Gardner and the Cauldron of Inspiration" and "Witchfather" both by Philip Heselton.

I'd also suggest reading some of the writings of the original Wiccans such as "Witchcraft Today" and "The Meaning of Witchcraft" by Gerald Gardner. And also any of the books by either Patricia Crowther and/or Eleanor Bone. These will give you a good picture of Traditional Wicca and the roots from which modern Wiccan practices come.

Pagans and Wiccans tend to approach ethics from a somewhat different viewpoint than the Judeo-Christian one. For Pagans and Wiccans it is not about a bunch of rules and "thou shalt nots" and about making choices based on internalized virtues and situations. Some valuable books include "When, Why...If" by Robin Wood, "Living with Honor: a Pagan Ethics" by Emma Restall Orr, and "The Other Side of Virtue" by Brendan Myers.

Some other books that will help you in your studies for right now would include the following:

"The Elements of Ritual" by Deborah Lipp
"A Witch Alone" by Marian Green
"Wicca for Beginners" by Thea Sabin
"Wicca: The Old Religion In the New Millennium" by Vivianne Crowley
"Phoenix From the Flame: Living as a Pagan in the 21st Century" by Vivianne Crowley
