You may see oils on the market that have certain properties, such as Love, Money, etc. Now everyone makes these oils differently, but there are ways to make them. Here is how I make Oils used for magickal purposes.
[Now, do not confuse these with essential oils, that is what we are not making, because essential oils are made by distillation.]
First, you will probably want to select a carrier oil. Carrier oils are usually used to cut strong essential oils for use on the skin. However, they can also be used to make oils for magickal use. Common carrier oils include: Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Grape seed Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, or Sunflower Oil. There are plenty more to choose from, and you can use one or the other for different scenarios.
Next, you want to get something to hold your oil. If you are going to make large batches of these oils at a time, mason jars are a great selection. If you are going to be making small batches, you can find various vials and bottles online and at your local store. Many vials come in different colors such as blue or brown.
Now you want to choose your herbs. This can vary due to how you associate with an herb. For example, I may think of cinnamon as an oil for love, while you see it more as an oil for money. You can also items like a petal from a rose your partner recently gave to you as an oil to help/restore love between you and your partner. You can also go by what the book says the herb is used for as well.
After you have done all of that, you want to make the oil. First, place all of your herbs into the container, if you want, you can place your herbs in hand, and speak to them your intention. It's extremely important you get your intention in there one way or another. Once you've placed your herbs into your container, fill it with your carrier oil of choice until you get below the rim of your container [You may want to use a funnel for these steps if you have a small mouthed container such as a vial. You then want to seal it, and store it in a warm place. Some suggest you place it in a sunny windowsill, others say store it in a warm but not sunny area. Let the oil sit for at least one to two weeks. It can sit more if you would like, just give it a shake every once in a while. If you would prefer it, you can strain out the whole herbs to just get the oil. Be sure to label your oils so you know which is which.
Great post :) This is how you make infused oils. I will add that the amount of herbs to oil is important especially when you are using jars because it can take much longer with less herb and more oil.
So about half and half is good for something like Calendula. With a small cut up herb such as comfrey that you buy at a store (which is usually cut up pretty neatly) about 2/3 oil to 1/3 herb is fine. Maybe a little more herb. For powders however, I use a little under 1/3 because a little goes a long way often.
The amount of time you let it sit - at least how long you listed - will make a very light oil ( as in the oil will not be that infused with the herb oils ). Typically if you want something more potent which you may use in creams and salves will sit from 4 to 6 weeks. At that much time you will start to notice a dramatic change in color of the oil in the jar (Typically takes about 3 to 3 and a half weeks). However, I am aware that the oil in this tutorial is for ritual/spell purposes and it is fine to let it sit for the original time at 1 to 2 weeks.
About carrier oils, I must say that grapeseed oil is the best to work with. It isn't as thick and viscous as other oils, so it is easier to infuse. Although it can be more expensive, the other oils work wonderfully as well. I find myself using Extra virgin olive oil often as it is cost effective :)
** To add to this post, when making an infused oil, you need to shake and/or stir the mixture DAILY! Perhaps even multiple times in a day. This can just be shaking the jar for a minute to mixing the herbs with a wooden spoon. It needs to be done. I know you mentioned this a bit, but the less they do it, the longer the oil will take to be infused. This should not be a chore, by the way, especially when you have put energy into your herbs - thinking of it as a chore can effect the outcome of the energy of the oil.
