So if someone is pagan like are the gods and goddesses like alive beings or like a description of a energy in a way? Sorry I just don't know.

The answer is both. It really is a matter of belief and faith, as nothing can be factually proven.

There are those who practice from the psychological aspect, suspending disbelief to work with ideas of god(s), to achieve an affect based on archetypes and symbols alone. They claim success in these endeavors, and have some very interesting anecdotes of using such methods to explore aspects of their psyche.

There are also those who believe they work directly with non-physical entities, whether remote or present gods, spirits, or what have you. They also report success in their endeavors to that effect.
