Anybody know what’s the purpose of using herbs for Cernunnos? Do I have to cook the herbs?

Why don't you do your own research on your deity of choice rather than asking for information from others?
There are thousands of websites and blogs dedicated to Cerunnos and there are many books too.

Working with a deity is more than just putting out items and setting up an altar, it is about the willingness to put in the effort to form a connection, and doing your own research rather than asking for everyone else's is a good way to start.

Herbs for offerings to a Deity are generally burned, not cooked. The essence or spirit of the herb is then carried on the smoke to the Deity.

Always remember, never eat or drink anything containing herbs with which you are not familiar. Some herbs are poisonous, others may interfere with medications you might be taking. Take time and study your herbs carefully before using them.

You can use the herbs to make oils etc. But you don't need to cook them.
In that book I DM'ed you it has lists of herbs and consequently incense etc for cernunnos.

I truly hope you're not referencing a fantasy role-playing game despite how accurate it may be for advise on communing with the deity.

Cernunnos is an earth deity, therefore it makes sense that he be associate with things that the earth is (like herbs) I feel as though cernunnos is connected to oak moss, patchouli, pine, and earthy and woodsy scents and herbs the most. You can use these herbs to attract (evoke or invoke) him, or you can give him these herbs as an offering.
