Muscatine vines

Does anyone know of any herbal or medicinal uses of the muscadine vine? While thinning our cane patch, my husband found huge muscadine vines. When I say huge I mean some of them were 6 inches in diameter. We knew muscadines were there. We could see small sections of the vines. We had no idea that the vines were so old and big. When he cut into them liquid poured out of them. I'm sure a lot of it is water from all the rain, but in was wondering if there were other uses for it. We can't stand the taste of them but some people love them. Thanks.

It was, indeed water (perhaps a bit of sap) in the vines. Muscadines are a wild red grape. So anything related to grapes should carry over in correspondences. The white wild grapes in the US are scuppernogs, and would carry similar meanings as other white grapes, or grapes in general.

These vines have been growing wild for who knows how long. We've lived here for 25 years and we think they were here then. They have been growing in a cane thicket and looking in, it's like a separate environment. Squirrels, birds,rabbits,even snakes have made a home here. About 10 years ago a tree as big around as the width of a car fell and the roots were pulled out of the ground. Now it looks like a cave under the tree. If it wasn't for the bugs,snakes,and rats we would leave it. It's actually kind of magical. There's got to be half a mile of vines growing out, up and around.

Oh, yeah. Muscadines are quite wide-spread in the South. It's amazing, though, that so much can be made with the vines! You could potentially harvest the smaller ones (an inch and less in diameter), and twist them into wreaths and similar. I've seen grape vines woven between the uprights on the backs of kitchen chairs, even, among many other things.
