Fluffing: Just Why

Fluffies are mainly children who come onto this site not really knowing very much, but believing in a lot!
Children actually enjoy being frightened, so they imagine "monsters", werewolves,vampires. Most little girls imagine fairies, goblins, all sorts of "little people". All part of growing up!
But, eventually, they learn. And they can learn a lot from the forums on this site.
Yes, they will argue! All children do. We older members must always keep in mind that, to a child, the "invisible friend" is very real!

I agree that the Fluff on this site is overwhelming. At first, I took it with a grain of salt but when you see the same things posted day after day, it gets tiresome real quick. You can only post so many times the same response before you just quit responding entirely.

Every single day there is a new thread on here about #1 Somebody needs a love spell, #2 Somebody wants to become a Vampire, Warewolf, or some other creature. I do realize that the majority of the new members are children, you can tell by the way they ask their questions. I tried to be patient, but honestly, patience is not a virtue of mine. I seem to have none when it comes to monotony.

A simple solution would be to restrict all new members comments ONLY to a new member section. After a certain amount of time, number of posts, or based on moderator approval should a new member be given the opportunity to actually post in the rest of the forum. (Petrarca if you need help coding the php for the forum I could assist you with that).

In that case, this would no longer be an "open forum" as it is now, when any member can post an opinion or a question, or a belief.

It would still be open. Everyone could still read everything, they just couldn't post anywhere other than the new members section until their status advanced to something else.

If a new members section were created certain posts could be pinned to stay at the top. This would clear the regular forums so actual conversation could ensue instead of someone constantly asking someone else to cast a Love Spell for them, etc.

The forum isn't entirely "open" now. No one can comment on the articles or spells sections now. How misleading is it to allow such Fluff to be posted without anyone allowed to comment?

I agree with Poppins. But the knowledgable members who've posted on how cruel being labeled as fluffy is have a real point that I think in my zeal I ignored.

However, I'd like to point out that any step that would involve labeling would be completely at the discretion of the mods and admins. If they believe a person shouldn't be labelled fluffy they shouldn't do it. I think it should only be used for people who are just obnoxious and flagrant about posting fluff. It's not for people who jsut ask questions or things of that nature.

I don't understand the whole "fluff" designation here. It's the first time I've ever heard of such a term in a magical community, and honestly, it's one of the most childish things I've come across.

Someone with an inflated self of self-worth said something about me being a "fluffy" in chat and marked me off as a troll because I didn't agree with her or buy into what she was saying -- and she'd done it before about a month ago too. It just came off as really childish and immature. "Oh, I don't like you, so I'm going to regard you as FLUFFY."

It comes across as grossly elitist and egotistical considering there are countless forms of magical practices. Kind of like a dumb high school clique.

But you can comment on Fluff! And not all Fluffs are children, many are merely misled, or misinformed.But they are members, and all members may post. Then it is up to other members to comment and/or point out where they are going wrong!
In that sense, this is an open Forum, and it would up to Pet to change it if he thought it necessary.
Any post that you disagree with, you may comment on, or ignore.

I suppose. But if a person says they want to become a mermaid and live in the sea and seems very desperate for it, and another user claims that they know the spell and infact are a mermaid how am I supposed to react?

I've actually seen that by the way, and the person who wanted the transformation spell had a history that suggested she was a real user.

This person was taking advantage by claiming to be able to do something that's impossible.

I mean if someone promised her a drug that could do that, and there was no evidence for it I think most would be a bit upset and wondering why the FDA doesn't get involved.

It also subjected this girl to unnecessary disappointment. This was like soon after I joined the site, so I can't find the post, but I hope this example explains my point of view on fluff

Not true. You cant comment on Spells or Articles.
