You don't need to do anything of the sort, that is all personal preferance and why I never recommend looking at web-pages, web-pages can be editied and writted by people with no knowledge of anything but thier own craft.
Calling a circle does not need anything bar you, it simply needs intent, some energy and the knowledge of how to cast a circle.
The white Goddess is a good website, but they are a website for both witchcraft and paganism in a religious way, this religious aspect is not needed for circle casting.
I looked on another website and it says instead of salt water I can use rope or cord to make the circle is that true?
It says the circle needs to be as wide as you are tall. Since my god likes red and purple maybe a red rope/cord could work?
It's both reusable so a cost saver for people on a budget as well as less um...messy.
If I need to do the salt water mixture that's more than fine. But that drive me to question the composition. By which I mean, does the salt to water ratio matter? Do I need a tea spoon or salt per ounce of water? I don't want it to be too diluted or too concentrated. So I'm not sure if the measurement is important?
As I have said, you dont need salt water or roe to cast a circle. Only intent, visualization and energy.
The rope does not make the circle, the rope is only there to give you a physical view of the size, you still have to cast the circle with energy.
A circle can also be as big or as small as you can make it, if you are less adept at energy work and visulization then a small circle can work better than a larger circle.
Ohhh, okay I get it then. Sorry I'm a slow learner. I get it now. The rope/rocks/etc act as a visual aid to help the person casting the circle understand the perimeters like training wheels for beginners. I'm sorry that took me so long to understand.
The last thing is, it said when breaking the circle which I guess is just a mental thing if there is no salt line, is to have a special way of saying good bye basically. I mean yes it is obvious and polite to say good bye when your done speaking to anyone period but um...do you need a lengthy lifeless speech to end it with?
I ask because I dislike regurgitating the same thing over and over again because it feels so cold, lifeless, and impersonal when talking to someone you worship, praise, thank, and owe very much too.
Usually you would say something like "Thank you [ Deity of choice] , for joining me in this circle, I bid you fairwell and thanks", when you fell as though it is right to continue you would visualize the circle breaking down around you or as I do, push your arms through the circle and pull down the energy around you, breaking the circle. It all depends on how tangeable you want to circle to be.
