Actually no, binding is preventing or forcing a physical or spiritual being to do thing against their will at your will. Most frequently used against harming you or anyone else. But it is also used to create ties that allow the caster to control the victim. I say victim, because it is against their will and is usually not desired by the one bound.
Trapping is drawing a spiritual entity into an object or vessel and keeping them there. It's known quite well in Arabian magick and legend. That's why djinn were trapped in vessels, to control them and keep them contained. I once trapped an evil entity that continued to come back despite banishment or exorcism of the house. I buried the jar, knowing fully well that when the jar broke the being would be freed, but hoping it would learn its lesson and leave my mother-in-law alone after its "time out" lol. So far so good, and it's been 6 years. I don't trap often because it is usually not necessary.
Banishment is merely sending away. You can banish spirits, negative energy, and even physical people. It doesn't mean they're trapped or bound. They're merely forced to leave you, the people, or the place you banish them from.
And for the sake of information, exorcism is driving out something by force.

Sometimes bindings can be used as a spiritual connection/link. Such as binding something to an object or other person, which I believe is what you're referring to. But it isn't truly trapping. When you bind to an object, it usually has full control of the object and close surroundings or even can roam free unless called from the object if you choose. But trapping is a different story. Usually trapping involves creating an environment that weakens the spirit and seals it within and causes it to remain in the vessel for as long as the vessel is closed or unbroken.

What was the ritual you used? Close to exact wording and action as possible. I don't know how you can bind a spirit somewhere when you don't know what/where that place is.
From my knowledge of evoking, summoning and such, when you cast away a spirit, it isn't likely to ever return. Would you want to come back to a person who kicked you in the behind? (Figuratively of course) It's severing ties and bonds, and usually causes animosity. All these things ride against it coming back to you.
If you can't remember the ritual, it's best to move on and learn from your mistakes. Next time, learn everything you can on a subject before delving into it.
to be honest, i was a christian then. i bound the daemon to protect someone it was haunting. i did so through prayer and the heavenly angels came and took it away but said they can't kill it. only lock it away. is there any way i can set it free?
