I must say that this entire idea holds a lot of water, and I fully agree with parts of it as well. Though Glim, Healer, and Silver make a fine argument with Snow adding supporting statements.
Bottom line you have a few Covens that how would one say, after lengthy existence never became a Coven. I'm sure Moderators and Pet alike could convene and make an amendment to the Coven creation guidelines stating that a Charter would have so long to become a Coven or it is wiped due to lack of substance.
Another ideal could be worked to where another amendment is made within the creation process of Covens that makes it awfully hard to create an RP type Coven. Say an essay form to be filled out and reviewed by the powers that be.
With both of the above in place, space should over time actually free itself up. As for Cruorem's use of "Vampire Covens" in his opening statement, I would think it was more towards the mention of not so Magick oriented Covens. I mean after all in this site's chatter we are always being told to hold discussions on a Magickal basis. Right? And when one mentions being a Vampire or wanting to become one, they are told that they are role-playing and to stop or be gagged. So if Vampirism is role-playing in the Site Chatter then why should it be allowed to be considered a Coven? If I can get 3/4 of the members on this site to agree to becoming Spongebob's, then will you allow me to create a "Sponge Bob Coven"? We can teach how to make Magickal Crabby Patties. I think not.
As for the Moderator's take on combining like Coven's; I would have to agree on the reasons for not doing so. P/P would be an issue when trying to decide who takes over what. Not to mention most of the Moderators on this site are either Priest,Priestess or Council in their separate Covens. I think combining and having to reconfigure Coven heads would cause two major issues. One complete Chaos and massive arguments. And two like Healer or Silver stated, many have the capacity to teach and pass on information. But given that each person is different , the direction of these teachings would be greatly narrowed down to what one or two think as opposed to the large handful we currently have. A lot in the way of knowledge could be lost.
With all that said I have another idea, we are constantly told and judged by others for being part of the problem and not the solution. Often we are told to help those we can instead of getting irritated and leaving. So the main reason most seem to argue and fight with Moderators about the ability to create new Covens is fairly simple.
Usually for 1 of 2 reasons this occurs. 1* Some believe they have something to add to the variety already shown within our current Coven line up. - Simple fix, join an existing Coven and teach through it (Moderator's most popular reply.). 2* Priests and Priestesses have dipped out for weeks upon at a time, leaving members high and dry. Now this isn't so easily remedied, most would say that one should send a note to Pet. This doesn't always work, Pet is actually quite busy with this site and his personal life. Not to mention all the complaints he already gets on a daily basis. So maybe if something in the system could be set up where it might flag a Coven when their P/P doesn't appear for say 30 days. At which time a Moderator could then place a Council member in that slot and thus keeping a Coven growing and carrying on. And getting rid of some of the reason for angry members to rant and rave within these forums.
Or maybe it's entertaining & looking at the actual issue doesn't help.
One thing that also could help in the covens. Is that the concil is more struktured. And the conection between p/p and the concil and from there to the members are bether.
Now I don't know of how it is in all the covens. But it was a part of some problems in one...
It's not that easy to gain personal connections with councilors, much less regular members.
Too often it is a case of actually signing on to speak with one another.
I am a Priestess of the site in my other account Metis, I guarantee you that I'm active within both covens I belong to, specifically here being Deep Arts. Yet still, I am how you would say-- nocturnal, as I prefer the night to day (for some odd reason) and my members are rarely on at the times I find myself signing into chat or coven forums, which can be a problem when you only have just a few members unlike those enormous covens that are bound to have at least a couple members on at all times.
Of corse there is things like that. And other things that do efeckt on one or another thing.
Maybe I should have pointed out the 'what's going on' about the coven and p/p related things and so on. That there is a comunication or a way to go about lething th rest of concil and p/p about things that is related to the maneging the coven. So the members might get a not about things that would b relewant and so on.
Now. I know it in some are working like that. Or other ways.
Just saying:)
even tho the p/p have the well 'controle' the concil members can stepp in on some parts to help.
(not saying they don't. ) but the strukture thing is to improve it if missing ir somthing.
Just some ideas.
I would gladly been given a bit more 'what to do' thing and so on as a concil:$
