Pagan and wicca can not be used interchangably. A wiccan is a pagan but a pagan is not a wiccan. The term pagan was first used during the 4th century. Paganism can describe religions that are older than the 4th century, if they are nature based. Wicca was not introduced till the 20th century, and is just one of the many new/retro religions that can be decribed as a pagan religion.

I never said paganism was satanism, I just wanted to prove that webster doesn't know anything about spiritual beliefs.
This is Webster Definition, taken from the following link:
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/satanism
Main Entry:
sa·tan·ism Listen to the pronunciation of satanism
Pronunciation: s-t-ni-zm
Function: noun
Usage: often capitalized
Date: 1565

1: innate wickedness
2: obsession with or affinity for evil; specifically : worship of Satan marked by the travesty of Christian rites
— sa·tan·ist Listen to the pronunciation of satanist -ist noun often capitalized

Now, does that sound right to you, SilverVixen? If no, I hope my point has been proven. If yes, go read the satanic bible and see what satanism is about.

sir_prize I had my own addition of the satanic bible, and I know what satanism is about. Also, I never claimed that you said satanism was paganism, i was merely trying to clear up a few little misrepresented facts that could have possibly confused new practioners of the craft, that's all, I meant nothing but a clearification, by no means did i mean to offend

Wicca actually wasn't invented in the 20th century. That's a common misconception. There are many different types of Wicca (Wicca is just basically a major traddition in Paganism that is said to be mainly focused on nature) the oldest type is Alexandrian wicca which was created during the Spanish inquisition. The wicca you're thinking of is called Gradnerian Wicca which was invented in 1951.

Alexandrian Wicca was created in the 1960's by Alex Sanders. He was a former student of Gerald Gardner.

If you want to know part of my history, it is as followed. I have studied the Gardnerian tradition and was breifed on the Alexandrian tradition by a coven that branched off of a large coven from Salem, Massachuserrs. Yes, the priestess traveled many hours over many weekends to earn her degrees in the Gardnerian tradition. I however, did not fit into the pigion hole of the wiccan traditions, so I once again became a solitary practitioner.

I am a pagan, I practice an old from of witchcraft that was handed down over many years from many different places.
