As far as creepy monsters go
The rake > the slender man.
They're both totally fake and meant to scare people.

There are many videos on youtube about the Slender man that are obviously fake, for example, the marble hornets series which I admit that I enjoy. But he is a character based off of a real being. The Slender man is a German fairy tale where he is known as Der Grossmann ("The tall man" or "The Slender man") but there have been real sightings of him. Some preists have even reported seeing him. And I'm not lieing when I say that I have too. I had visions where he would visit me, each time in a different way. But always present. He is Das engel auf Tod. The angel of Death.

Der Grossman...creepy creepy! I've never seen one, and I never want to. Gives me chills just thinking about it. Have you seen the old German woodcutting? They've been talked about so much, I'm sure many strong thoughtforms are roaming Germany.

What I find interesting is that a lot of mythical creatures are located in Europe, Wonder if they have their yearly meetings there;D

But seriously, the woods are known to house a lot of "creepy" creatures (I put creepy in quotations because creepy is an opinion, what is creepy to someone may be lovely to another. It's all in perspective)

O_X, is there anything more you know about Der Grossman? I looked it up and I found the non-photoshopped versions of the woodcuts that, instead of showing a the multi-armed slenderman, showed a skeleton. Is it really the angel of death (meaning that it guides souls to the afterlife), or is that just a title given to it?

FaithSeeker, I believe that Der Grossman is actually the name all the skeleton-like creatures. I think that they help lost souls cross over. Although I may be wrong, I got this information from a friend.

Also, the first video on the webpage is kinda funny, cause the whole Thomas thing sounds so fake;D

Here is a good link of the various woodcuts. The first one is the true "der grossmann" and as you can see it has an uncanny resemblence to the fake "slenderman". The others are labeled "de ritter" and was something like a representation of death. But people make the connection because of how similar the two are and they're both taking children. From what I've read de grossmann has evolved into what is commonly known as the boogeyman. It was a story told to children that if they didn't listen to their parents (especially if they walked into the Black Forest alone), de grossman would kidnap them or stalk them until they told their parents the truth. But people who have seen de grossmann never lose the fear of being stalked by the entity. I'm glad I don't live in Germany...lol!

Oh, wow. Der Grosse Mann. Der Ritter. I haven't looked at that in ages. The stories were always a touch odd but interesting. Similar to Fear Dubh. Thanks for that article. From many of the stories I've heard passed down through oral tradition, Der Grosse Mann would take many people for varying reasons. They used to say if you were walking through the woods at night, to keep your eyes open wide, because Der Grosse Mann enjoyed watching you from the trees and if you did not pay attention he would grab you with one of those limbs. (Imagine, being a child and trying to walk into the woods after that!).

nightmares... just... ugh. i am indifferent on the belief in the slenderman. it seems like it is a possibility that it could be real, but then again, it could be fake. so i really dont know.

The Slender Man is not real, but der Großmann is real. Der Großmann is a fairy that takes children that wander in to the forest. Its image has been seen throughout time and as we know its memory still roams free.

My sisters friend's grandmother lived in Germany at a small town in the early 1900's, and by her account she told me that she saw the creature at the edge of the black forest at night. When she was walking home from her church to her house at night she saw this man like thing. Its legs alone were 5 feet tall (about 8-9 feet tall all together), it wore all black and also had a large top hat on. She ran to her house and as she looked out the window it was gone.

I believe that this being mimics the image of wealth and power, as it looks like a man and wears a suit.
