The Necronomicon was attributed by H.P. Lovevecraft, the writer of horror stories, (1890-1937), to Abdul Alhazred, a mad Arab poet of the Yemen; he was supposed to have written the work in the year 950 at Damascus. The original Arabic text went through several translations, according to Lovecraft, the most recent being in 17th century Spanish, a translation into English having been made by John Dee.
During the forty-odd years following Lovecraft's death in 1937, a variety of interested parties inquired whether he had had access to a genuine manuscript or whether it had been solely the product of his invention. The English "King of the witches", Alex Sanders at one time claimed to have a copy, but all that interviewers were allowed to see was a document clearly written and decorated by Sanders himself.
In 1978 a volume was published under the title of the Necronomicon, "The lost masterpiece of occult literature and a disturbing account of the dark side of creation." With a long introduction by Colin Wilson, it included essays by several writers on aspects of Lovecraft's works. But the central part of the book comprised some pages reproduced from an anonymous manuscript in the British Museum; "The Necronomic a Commentary" by Robert Turner; an erudite article on a computer analysis of the Enochian language in Dee's Liber Logaeth - and "Fragments from the Necronomicon deciphered from a unique Elizabethan cryptogram". It is to be hoped that all those who came across this volume were not persuaded to believe that it was anything other than a clever and elaborate spoof.

Nice post. Good simple information. But the Necronomicon means "the book of the laws of the dead" or "the tones of the laws of the dead". I have several copies of the Necronomicon my self and each one states the actual meaning if the title. And if you are going to post spells from the book then do so and do not leave out any thing. If you inteded on taking out a line then there was absolutely no purpose in having posted the spell any ways. Post it complete. Give a warning of the dangers of these spells. And if a person wishes to try them let them try it. Because even with you having taken a line out some one can simply google the spell or the Necronomicon and find the complete spell along with all the rest. And the proper casting instructions as well.
First thanks for the compliment...
Second I know what Necronomicon means you needn't waste your time to type(i have the books too)... And I know that every one can Google the spells and find them hole...
Third you can not tell me how or what to write in my threat...
Have a good day ;)
What is left out completely is that H.P. Lovecraft was an author of fiction.
He wrote about the Mad Arab, who was an entirely fictional character. Yes, he developed an intense story about him... but it was never anything more than fiction.
John Dee's own system of magic, Enochian magic, has nothing to do with such things. Further, his personal journals, which have been published, mention absolutely nothing of the Necronomicon.
The version published in 1978 is largely baseless. There are hints of Babylonion mythology within it, but it adapts these to meet its own purposes without offering much by way of truth or historical accuracy. It is not or was not lost. It never existed outside of brief mention in early horror-fiction stories.
The spells and incantations within are rooted loosely in various occult traditions that were scraped up and mashed together by the anonymous author in 1978. These scraps of actual magical practice are the only reason it has any relevance.
You'd be better off exploring babylonian mythology and western mystery traditions by themselves.
Renee, as expressed, the Necronomicon has no true historical value. Much of what the book offers as "fact" is more fiction than anything else.
The Great Ones, for example, are wholly a fictitious creation of Lovecraft.
This is not to say that if you send out such a call that something will not answer.
As I understanding it opening the gates of the Necronomicon can be a useful tool, somewhat like exploring the various steps of the Book of Abramelin.
That being said, I firmly believe that, as I said before, you'd be better off going to the original sources of western mystery traditions and actual mythology than the Necronomicon.
The book has value, but is not a historical, or accurate, work and should not be treated as such.
Nice post except you forgot about 3/4 of the rest of the rituals involved to make it work including the rites required to intiate yourself into the faith.Even if you found the 2 verses you left out you're still screwed since there is no mention of the banishment rituals, the proper charging of the circle, the summoning of the watch towers and numerous other points I'm not even going to get into.
forgot to add this. lists quiet a few amazing books that validate it's authenticity as something other then fiction.
