i have a cold. i've been denying this fact for a while, but i've got a cold. my throat is no longer soar so i don't need a hot honey and lemon. does anyone have any potions/teas for colds? [mostly runny nose and scratchy throat.] the worse is over, just wondering if anyone has any suggestions. [oh, and boiling salt water for the steam, i know that one too.] thank you all.
I have several suggestions for you hun, first my triple strength throat spray should definitely relieve your symptoms within fifteen minutes or so of taking the remedy. The recipe and instructions can be found in my Herbal Remedy of the Day thread. Secondly a gentle infusion of Echinacea, Chamomile, and Peppermint will also help with symptoms as well as boost your immune system to fight of the infection, this tea can be sipped lightly throughout the day. Lastly I recommend eating as much Garlic as you can because it is natures strongest anti-virals and anti-bacterials which will kick the cold right out, and I recommend eating it in general because it helps prevent further infection; and because it is good for the heart, circulatory system, and helps lower blood pressure and high cholesterol. Other herbs that help fight off colds are Boneset, Catnip, Angelica, Elderberry, Fennel, Ginger, Lemon Balm, Linden, and Meadowsweet. I hope this helps and feel better. Blessings.
^_^ thanks. i don't have any echinachea, i have some St. John's Wort i mixed into my green tea. [I do have chamomile and peppermint] i have also some lemon balm, could i sub one of those for the echinachea? i love garlic, use it in everything, so no problem there ^_^ thank you very much.
You can eat it in either form. However, garlic contains Allicin which acts as a mild antibiotic, similar to a weak penicillin. Cooking the garlic weakens it's antibiotic properties. Therefore, you could try eating a raw clove with some fresh basil or mint to help with the smell. Also, be careful when eating it raw because it can be rather hot and spicy, so if you're not a fan of either you could cook it which can help remove some of those properties.
you could try sea salt mixed with morning dow,if you can't find enugh dow you can set a bowl with a bagie that has ice in it out all night and get the melted ice at dawn or before dawn.
darkYlight, it's really gross, but in my family there's an infection that everyone seems to get every now and then, and the time tested 'cure' is to drink a tablespoon of garlic powder in a cup of water. gag every time, but it works. garlic tastes a lot better cooked. there's a chemical reaction it has that breaks down the antioxidants and changes the taste. try your best to add it to most of your cooking. typically i add it to all my main dishes, last night i made soup and added a tablespoon of minced garlic. you could also roast it in a pan, or in the oven, it's sweeten and turn to that of a paste, squeeze it out [cuz it should be roasted inside the clove with the top cut off] and you can add it to your cooking whenever.
Eat some yellow root. It's organic. Indians, or Native Americans, used it specifically for the cold. But don't take to much. When to much is taken it becomes toxic.
