Hello. Been dabbling in spell writing/casting for awhile, but I don't have much money to spend on this hobby. I am underage and my parents do not support it, so they will not fund it. Seeking help on finding resources for practicing Magick.
Definitely been where you are, and it's the pits. The good news is that you only need intent for effective spellwork - paper, quills, herbs, athames, stones, crystals...they're handy, but they aren't necessary.
You'll probably want to check out "thriftcrafting" for monetary saving tips if you are intent on getting some physical tools. Meditation and simple candle magic are great places to start if you're looking to keep things on the DL with the parents. You can use sites like MeetUp and WitchVox to find groups and shops in your area where you can network and/or find more information. Libraries also should have plenty of free info that you can delve through.
Well most items you could make or grow. Things like cinnamon you could say you're baking, or incense you like the smell. Herbs you could grow your own. Pick a couple you use a lot. Candles, you could buy from a discount store, or make your own as a hobby. I think crystals would be the hardest thing to explain, but you could say you find them pretty.
Definitely stand in your shoes with this....
Some things I do to save money and hide witchcraft from my parents are...
Buy chalices, statues, and candles from goodwill. I've gotten candle holders there, altar cloths, pentacles, wood... So much you could get there.
I use a lot of natural things from my yard as well. I'm blessed with crystals every now and then, but feathers, rocks, pinecones and the like are priceless.
If you need any more tips, or need something specific, message me :)
You know one thing you can do is set up a mental altar. In this fictional space you have all the tools and things you desire at none of the cost. You can envision yourself practicing your craft in this space with the tools you want to use. Great bonfires, candles, staves and wands, anything you like with as much detail as your mind can muster. You can create an herb garden and tend it within your own imagination then use the herbs in your work. All of this can take place inside your meditations.
Of course it can be hard at first to stay focused and in the mental space you create but with enough practice it becomes easier and enjoyable. I still live with my parents, after an unfortunate incident with a smudge stick burning a hole in the carpet I was forced to pack up my tools in a box and no longer practice. So I turned to meditation and it really worked. I was surprised by how well my energy flowed and how cleansing spells cast with fictional sage worked just as well as actually doing it. With enough focus and the right energy I was able to recreate my practice in my own mind at no cost and you can do it do!
