you do not have to become a witch, just you have to add that title and call yourself one.

In my advice first learn what witchcraft and magic is all about, then clear out the basic.

Learn and practice witchcraft, and then you're a witch. It's as simple as that. :)

There is a method for dedication in Wicca. It is a ritual that you partake in after you have practiced and studied for sometime. You need to be sure that it is what you want and be willing to take the oath. You may read information by looking it up online and there are books that describe the dedication rituals.

I have found it best to read on the subject and then practice. Crystals have always held my interest even before I learned of their magical properties. So I would suggest that you get some crystals and try meditating and scrying with them. Read and learn about herbs and their properties both magically and medicinally.

Another thing that I think is important is get outside at night and notice the moon and its cycles.

Start first by asking, what is a witch? The title means so many different things, to so many different people. It is said, that if you practise witchcraft, then you are a witch; but that is simply not true! Many people mistake witchcraft for the Occult. For ancient "mysteries"; for Gods and Goddesses. They mix it up with religions, such as Wicca. It all revolves around the one word "Magic". Trying to define magic by writing is like trying to plait fog! If you read the posts on this site, you will find that most members wouldn't know real magic if it jumped up and bit them!
So, to be a witch, read as much as possible. Learn about all the different "paths"; and then choose to follow one. You may call yourself a witch without ever actually coming into contact with witchcraft!

First, read all you can. Witchcraft deals with a term of magic, right? You'd probably think, so.

However in oder to truly be a witch, you must know what a witch is. Therefore, study as much as you, can.

Along with that, as Bryson said above. Many religions, that use magic, like wicca, for example, can be claimed as a witch.

Is it true? That is that person's choice. To me, i believe knowledge, respect, and understanding of a variety of things(rocks, religions, magic, spells, health, hurt, ect) and their beliefs make a witch.

If you want to be a witch, ask yourself the following.
* What is a witch?
*What do i already know
*What i hope to learn?
*Do you want to include any religions?

Next if so, read the, ''basics:expanded'' by Awaketoolong.

After that, take out some books.

According to me in 3 words, I'd define witch as:-
A wise person.
As you're new to witchcraft I'd recommend you to study more and more as that'll answer your questions. A witch is not the one who waives his/her wand to attain desired thing but the one who realizes his/her true self by connecting to the divine.
Welcome to SOM , you've reached the correct place to learn and walk on this path.
I suggest you to read the book:- Complete Idiot's guide for Wicca and witchcraft by Denise Zimmermann, Katherine A. Gleason. This book will guide you very well and answer most of your questions.
