Atheists do not believe in God or Gods. One does not need a religon or the belief of gods to practice witchcraft.

Magic has nothing whatsoever to do with religion, so why wouldn't an atheist be able to practice magic? Magic is a craft, not a spiritual practice. It is no more reasonable to say that atheists cannot practice magic than it is to say that an atheist cannot knit a sweater.

However, let's try to explain. I am an Atheist (Though I prefer the name Humanist.)
I do not believe in anything supernatural. No Gods, Goddesses, spirits, ghosts, demons; or any other such make-beliefs.
But, I am a witch. I practise witchcraft/magic; and have done for many, many years.
The problem with magic is that it is so difficult to describe it, without seeing it. I am trying to teach one of our young members, and she has succeeded in working some magic.(And as usual was astounded when she saw it work!). But anymore I cannot teach her; because she would have to be here in person. So, magic has nothing to do the supernatural; it is as natural as breathing. Think of it as a skill, not as a belief.

Even if you did work with a system involving spiritual beings, an atheist could very much so still get results. I was an atheist when practicing magic for a longish period and I still got results.

The difference is I took a psychological approach to magic, seeing rituals as moving meditations and forms of self-hypnosis which initiated trance and allowed me to peer into my psyche and commune with my unconscious which took the form of demons, angels etc.

It is very possible I will be an atheist again. I would still practice magic, me being more of a theist (I hate these cut and dry terms) now has not made any difference to my practice other than I do more devotional work than I once did. Being an atheist was actually less work for me!

Atheist (A+theo+ist) one who does not bellieve in god or religion. They do not believe in god, that does not necessarily mean they do not believe in Magic. They do believe in a power that exists in this world which drives this whole universe, they simply do not wish to give that force or vibration a personification, that is all. Which means they do not see the power or energy and a human or super-human. Your questions seems to be rather similar that all Scientists do not believe in magic but and non-magic believers need not be scientists.

Oh,Scientists do believe in magic. They just call it Research. They don't like the word magic,or the word witchcraft.
And I do understand energy;better than many on this site. And I do know what a human is; and that a super human doesn't exist. And I do know how the Earth works, and how the Universe works. I have been studying both for many more years than most members have been alive!

Everybody believes in something. Atheists can believe in love, in justice, in honor, in duty, in the pursuit of truth, in past experience informing the result of similar future situations, or that a memory of the past is mostly accurate instead of imagined or modified by emotions. They can even believe that they don't believe in anything.

Atheists just don't believe in god or gods. There do exist traditions of magic that do not involve gods. For example, the Psionics communities that I've been a part of were even hostile to pagans because gods are "fluffy" and psionics is a skill, like Lark said it's like knitting a jumper. You don't need to believe in God or any gods to believe that knitting a jumper will result in a jumper.

Many members here don't believe in physical shapeshifting because that is "fluffy". What are they doing here? I should hope that they're exercising discernment and critical thinking!

Nobody has to believe in everything OR nothing.

Whoops! Here we go again! I'll say it again, there is nothing supernatural about magic/witchcraft. You may believe in any God,any religion,or no religion at all, and still practise witchcraft and work with magic.
