Hello, all! So I stumbled upon a discussion a while ago on another website completely accidentally and people had mentioned the magic of that time of the month and I've never come across anything like that; as far as I'm concerned it brings depression with it, and I can't use witchcraft in this state, I'm far too sad to believe in myself and my work. I looked it up online but everything I found was weird. I'm asking if anyone has links, articles, books, answers or insights: how do other religions view it? How can it promote anything magical, if it does? Are there any common rituals/spells to do during it? I'm not really sure what I'm looking for, as I said, i just got the idea from that discussion, and I apologize if this is on here already, like I said , I looked and couldn't find anything. Thanks in advance and blessed be!
There may be others, but i really liked Kts answer. When i did research on menstrual fluid's i did find women put it in the tea meant for someone they want to fall in love with them. This is disturbing and not recommended but to each their own i suppose.
Some people also associate their menstrual cycle with that of the moon, and that that tie gives them power. On the day of ovulation or menstruation beginning, some believe it can make their own spells, especially love spells, more potent. I'm not entirely sure where this belief comes from, but I had heard that in ancient practices, especially the beliefs of some native American tribes, ( I think it can be traced to the dine tribes) that menstruation not only gave them a better tie to the earth, but a profound and strong tie with the spiritual realm.
Other than the link it creates towards the person whose body fluids have been used, I will explain you how the Jewish tradition views it.
In the Torah, it is said that every married couple must save "Nidah" - some rules associated with sexual contact between men and women. One of this rules is that a couple must not be intimate during a woman's menstruation days. According to the spoken Torah, the menstruation blood of a woman holds powers of "Tumah" (which is basically negative) and can grant a woman control over a man and make him go crazy for her. This is why some traditions forbid having sexual contact during menstruation.
In other traditions as well, menstruation blood is believed to hold some sort of power on men, which is why it is used in love magic.
In ancient times in some magical traditions promulgated by Jewish and Christian authorities women were not allowed to practice magic at all. Women who were currently menstruating were to be avoided like the plague as they viewed it as dirty, as a reminder of the sin which a woman first made. In some modern traditions, particulalry some ATR traditions this view is still held by some, but seems to be dying out.
Honestly, it is complete and utter nonsense, silly superstition, if a woman did not menstruatethere would be no human race, there is nothing sinful in it.
As someone has linked above it can even be useful within magic as a potently charged fluid with multiple uses and a potent talisman of manifestation.
I am not a woman, so I cannot comment on the physical process, but the mental and emotional states you mention are common to us all.
I have periods of time when I am simply depressed, I don't want to get out of bed let alone put on my robes and commune with the divine. I feel useless and also, even after 13 years of experience, still doubt myself. The only way to break out of this is to continue. It is to strive and fight those feelings, it eventually gets easier. You will still have bad days, but they will become fewer and should not be taken as a sign of defeat- even if you don't get any results, even if you feel as though you are just imagining, at least you have tried to do something and not been defeated by your own emotions.
If you feel that way I would just do things that promote self-care, relaxation, meditation, prayer.
