I just bought a new pendulum which I think is bloodstone? Anyway I'm new at using it. I understand the whole it answers yes/no questions. But I want to know how to charge/clean my pendulum and also advice on what not to ask it. Websites say to not ask emotionally charged questions...would an example of that be asking it if a certain person loves me?

I personally use my pendulum only to discover health issues someone has. The pendulum is an instrument in which you put your energy and helps you focus and conserve the energy, in order to achieve your own purpose. Therefore, in theory, you could use the pendulum for plenty of things, find lost objects, detect the negative presences, communicate with spirits, divination, etc. Personally, I prefer other divination methods, for example, tarot, as it is way more complex and helps guide one towards a better understanding of oneself. I have heard of people using pendulums for divination by entering a meditative state, asking questions and watching the movement of the pendulum. I guess you can try it like this :) Enjoy your experience and tell us about it :D

I love pendulum reading. It's a wonderful way to get into divination.
How you choose to charge and cleanse depends a lot on your tradition. The way I do things like that are quite different than how one of my friends who also practices witchcraft does so.
Asking emotionally charged questions can be a bad idea, especially if you aren't experienced in divination. This is because you can accidentally subconsciously affect which way the pendulum swings. Calibrating it can help avoid this (asking questions you already know the answer to), but it's still something to be cautious of.
No divination method can tell the future. They can, however, provide insight into the future. One shouldn't take divination as fact, but rather as a guide to gain some idea of what may transpire if events stay the same.
For almost all stones or crystals you can use selenite for cleansing. They come in a few different forms. the most common is the tower structure in which it is carved into pillars on top of each other. They do sell long crystals or even a variation of a disk shaped one so you can place your items on it.
Other people, including myself, like to utilize salt for charging. While this isn't exactly cleansing it can help charge the stones potential. I have a box I keep salt in and will, from time to time, place crystals in there.
A traditional way is to leave it out either outside or near a window on a full moon. Some believe in the powerful properties of the moon and its ability to cleanse many things. You can also make moon water, which is just leaving water out overnight under a full moon.
There really isn't a right or wrong way, you can do what you feel comfortable with. A stone I use a lot is black tourmaline which absorbs negative energy, so if you carry it with you it acts as a protection, especially when casting or meditating. That I cleanse frequently simply because of its properties.
If you are using a bloodstone, this helps with grounding negative energy as well as healing. But with you line of questions you may have more emotional energy invested that you may sway the results and the stone may not be enough to protect the answers you seek from being accurate. I would start out with simple questions to get familiar and comfortable with using it and how it reacts in your hand. After a while you will be able to sense when your energy is influencing it or not.
