Where to start??
By:
Hi. I am completely new to ‘magick.’ I’d never heard of it until yesterday! I have read all of the basic meditation stuff and I am able to ‘feel’ magick energy. But so far I have been unable to work a simple spell, unlock my aura or create a psi ball. Is there a reason for this? Are there any spells that you would suggest to start with? Also I have done many different tests on different sites and they have all said that I have a distinct relationship with the element of fire, yet I don’t have anything to burn except a twig?

Hello and welcome!

Don't be too worried about it at first. It takes time. Some of the things you mentioned are certainly not mandatory for a magic practice. Most people never practice making a psi ball, nor ever bother trying to see auras. Some people will get caught up in things like this, and it becomes an abstraction; they learn to see some field of light, or to visualize a ball of energy between their palms, and never do anything with it.

As for your "element," that's something else a lot of people really end up misunderstanding. It is not talking about physical manifestations of the four alchemical base elements; it's talking about them in a figurative manner. We're made of all four elements. They're more like emotional qualities, energetic in nature. Some people may say they have an affinity for a specific element, and that's fine. But it does not give them the ability to control any aspect of the physical representation used to describe it.

If you hadn't started learning till yesterday or even today then it is unlikely you will be able to successfully be able to feel energy or cast a spell.

Spells take time to manifest, sometimes weeks, months, even years depending on the working, and most of the time, require some background information such as energy work, grounding, etc which also take time to learn.

Don't get disheartened if things take time to come to you, it's known as a "craft" for a reason, our abilities, and skills grow as we study and practice.

If you're serious about learning how to do magic and with starting from the rock-bottom then you don't start out by casting spells, you start out by learning how and why magic works.

You see, there is no such thing as an "easy" spell or a "beginner" spell. One either understands how magic works and has mastered the basics...in which case the magic will work..or you haven't done that sort of work..and no spell will work no matter how "easy" it seems.

Casting a successful spell involves much more than finding some spell on the internet or in a book, saying some words, lighting a candle, waving a wand of any of that sort of thing. In order for magic to work you need to understand how and why it works in the first place. Grounding and centering, visualization, focus and intent, energy manipulation, etc are all necessary first steps to even begin to have a chance at a spell actually working...and more importantly to prevent a spell from back-firing on you.

So, my advice for anyone who is truly serious is to start by reading a few books and practicing the exercises those books will give you. Once you have mastered the basics you won't need anyone to give you spells, you'll be able to create your own spells that will be far more effective than anything you find on the net. Here's the books I suggest:

"Before You Cast a Spell" by Carl McColman

"Spells and How They Work" by Janet and Stewart Farrar

"The Veil's Edge" by Willow Polson

"Modern Magick" by Donald Michael Kraig

And the following links in this thread will also help you learn the basic skills necessary for effective spellwork.

Okay, I'll keep my eyes peeled. just a thought, would it be a good idea to keep a notebook to write down the basics like meditation in?

Of course! I would totally recommend that! I have actually quite a few written book's, one is for dreams which is hardly used, one for daily rituals which is new, one for useful techniques much older, one for home remedies, and one just for the basic's i learned years ago. You also want to write in spells that work and do not work, its a good way to study yourself, there is always room for improvement.

Sending some PDF's your way to check out!
