Herbs for the Skin.

Here are some great methods and herbs that through my expierience I have found work excellently for scrapes, bruises, cuts, bumps, etc.

Witch Hazel

I had a black eye recently, (my friend accidently hit me in the face with a golf club, nice eh?), and I decided to soak a cotton pad with 100% Distilled Witch Hazel BPC.

Once every morning and once every night I would apply the pad to my effected area. I noticed that my black eye went down rapidly. The average time for a black eye to heal is a week to a week and a half. Mine went down with in 5 days! As I said in my 'For all you Teenagers!' post, witch hazel is a great soother. For external use only.

It can also reduce minor skin irritations and sprains.

The leaves, bark and a few other parts of this plant are high in tannins. It is a astringent. Astringents are, what you could say substances, thatdry, tighten, and harden skin, tissues, etc. Applying witch hazel to your skin can cause it to look younger, softer and glowing!

Astringents also stops discharges and removes any excess oils from the area they are applied to.

The tannins in witch hazelsoothe aching varicose veins or reduce inflammation in cases of phlebitis. Witch hazel also contains procyanadins, resin, and flavonoids, all of which add to its soothing, anti-inflammatory properties. :)

And dont just use it for bruising, cuts and bumps... experiment!

That was my bit of info on the properties of Witch Hazel. As that was longish, i'll now include short bits of info on herbs to treat bruises/bumps/cuts.

Aloe Vera

One of the best healing herbs of all time! It's gel can treat anything from burns to cuts, from cuts to bumps, and anything else you can imagine.

Aloe Vera is soothing, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. It helps heal wounds of all kinds, including the ones mentioned above, and it is very useful to have around the house. Keep 100% AV gel in your first aid kit! Available from pharmacists everywhere.

Calendula

The blossoms of calendula are antiseptic, astringent and anti-inflammatory.It helps to stop bleeding and aids in the growth of new skin- great for burns. Its very gentle, so much as that you can use it on babies and the most sensitive of skin.

Honeysuckle

Honeysuckle flowers are a natural antihistamine, but they are most useful for rashes and inflammation. Combine with mint to treat any form of trouble on the skin! To treat boils, add scutellaria.

Plantain

Plantain leaves are best used fresh, and all of the plant can be used; even the roots! Blend the whole plant with some water, and apply to a bee/wasp sting to help relieve pain.

Message me for a list I found on a site for healing plants- including their uses. :)

Hope this provided you readers with some useful information, and that you enjoyed reading this. Thanks!

Another beautiful post, and if it was a golf club, it must've been a pretty unusual "accident" eh?

There are plenty of herbs that are widely used for making herbal tea that keeps your skin healthier. Drinking regular herbal tea is very best for the skin care. I choose my own herbal tea from your-cup-of-tea.com, it might be helpful to you.

That is a great method, but I find the effect of the tea is weaker than when you apply the herb directly to your skin. In some cases, it may need to be diluted otherwise it will be too harsh for the skin. :)
