Incense replacements
By:
Hi all i have been using some scented candles and essential oils vs incense. I hope this is ok? I have much difficulty breathing when using incense. I think the "smoke" that transpires is important, but i just am not able to breath well with it. I believe scents are extremely important with rituals. Is there a guide at all that someone may have put together for replacing incense? Has anyone else had this problem?

Both are perfectly acceptable to use instead of incense.

As Nord said either are acceptable. Incense and essential oils are both made from plant material(s) , so interchangeably finding substitutions for a particular scent wouldn't pose as a struggle.

The only difference between the two besides their physical state would be what is being released when they are heated and/or burned. Incense can release gaseous byproducts with additional VOCs (volatile organic compounds) while essential oils may only release VOCs. This often being the discomforting factor people have when diffusing.

Using an oil or candle for a substitute of an incense is perfectly fine. If there is a particular ritual which calls for a specific scent, then I would exchange with a candle or essential oil that is the exact scent just of another material that does not irritate you the practitioner/ or your health.

A lot of times, the wood that the incense is made with is the problem. I usually anoint my candles with an essential oil, then you are getting the essence of your fragrance.
Check a correspondence chart to use the correct essential oil for the purpose of the spell.

Perfectly fine like the other said. You can also use scented sprays made with oils. They're a personal favorite of mine.
