I do not know how everyone else communicates with spirit but I communicate with them through trance work and meditation. How I do this is by closing or opening my eyes and feeling the pull of the spirit. The pull of a spirit feels like a nonphysical pull but a sensation or tingling in the astral body. Hope this helped. Oh, and I would also research this and other methods of communication with spirit.
For the matter regarding attracting a positive entity into your space, I would if you know how to write a talisman with specific wording and a pentagram in red or black ink on whitepaper and use that object to meditate on. Staring at a talisman until you come into a trance also helps.
In my opinion, beginners in spiritwork should start by inviting someone they knew. Set out some offerings for a deceased family member, friend, or even a pet. You already know how to treat them and have a relationship, so it's less dangerous than just inviting random spirits into your house. You should still know how to handle yourself if things do go badly, though, so do research on how to protect yourself.
How to communicate with spirit depends a lot on the tradition. If you follow a particular tradition, research how to properly do it according to the rules or guidelines of your path. If able, tools are quite helpful when starting spiritwork (such as a pendulum or a Ouija board). Of course, you should know how to use these tools safely and know how to banish before you decide to use them, but they can be helpful in providing a conduit between you and the spirit.
Rhododendron stated that communication with spirits dependsa lot on the tradition, I don't have any traditionand my family don't practice magicas they believe it's a sin in our religion, so the question here is which traditionshould I pick and/or is it necessary to pick one?.
I have a follow-up question on Rhododendron post and anybody can respond.
There are many people here able to post articles and spells, how do I know if they are legitimate stuff or just made up by wannabes lol as there is much information on SoM website relating to Banishing and Protection which ones are trustworthy?
It's not necessary to pick a tradition. It's completely fine to follow your intuition and to borrow from several traditions to craft your personal path (as long as you do so respectfully and don't take from closed traditions). If you'd like to follow a particular tradition, that's also fine. There are traditions that are only practiced in one family, and traditions that are incredibly difficult to find information on if not hereditary, but you can follow a pagan or witchcraft tradition whether your family does or not. My family is a large mix of religions, and I'm the only one who practices witchcraft.
After getting more involved in witchcraft and practicing for a while, it becomes easier to tell if information is legitimate or not. For spells, my general rule is that if something is impossible in the mundane world, it's impossible magickally. For example, you can take mundane measures to protect your house, so you can also take magickal measures. You can't shapeshift in the mundane world, however, so magick can't do that either. It doesn't apply to everything, but it can be helpful.
For making sure information is correct, always crossreference. Don't take any one article as fact. Look it up and try to find other sources on the subject matter to ensure that the original information was correct.
