What is the 'X'?
I think it just means you don't need anything. This is a chant one would use as a point of mental focus while building/drawing in energy and intent.
Personally, this is nonsense. However, the author explained this is their way of charging energy before a spell. Saying a chant is one method of building energy, so try it and see how it works for you. I prefer dancing to charge energy, others meditate. Do what works for you.
I got curious and did a few seconds of searching, It seems this chant (or at least ones very similar to it) has been reproduced in several places... I can't seem to find an actual 'origin' to it, but it seems to often refer to using this chant whe walking your cauldron or magical space. Considering the elemental nature of the verses I surmise it could be/could have been a method of initiating a working and calling the elements.
I would love to know where it comes from though, I am curious what sort of tradition it is tied with... Whether it is a 'root' path, or some amalgamation of traditions into a newer practice.
